Microsoft Word is one of the most widely used Microsoft 365 programs. Not only is it a great template, but it is also used to type important documents, letters, and much more. Sometimes, though, the word may not work as expected, and you may end up receiving an error code or an error message. Here are some common word problems and see how you can fix them.
My file will not open
Trying to open a file but can’t find the word? In this case, Microsoft Word may send you a message stating that it encountered an error while trying to open the file. This usually happens when you do not have permission to open the file, or if the file is moved or deleted from its original location.

To fix this, check-in File Explorer or run a search in Windows 10 to see where the file has gone. To unlock the file and get permission to open it, meanwhile, go to where it was saved right-click on the file, and then select Properties. From there, you want to click on the Unblock option.
Microsoft Word crashes or freezes
Another common problem with Microsoft Word is that it can crash or freeze when opening a document. This can happen when you have trouble reading the contents of a Word document, or if the document contains too many pictures and text.
In most cases, it is better to wait and let Ward try to solve the problem on their own. If you think you’re losing your document, you can try to skip words using the Task Manager by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL and click Task Manager, looking for Microsoft Word, and then clicking the Last Task. This will start the program anew. In most cases, Word will try to recover the document automatically as you did last time and will open the Document Recovery Task Pane. Again, though, this is the last resort.

If Word persists with a problem and still gives you an error message, you will receive a message that the document has caused a serious error. In this case, you may need to completely reset Microsoft Word. To do this, go to the Windows 10 Start menu and type Add or Remove Programs. Then, choose Office or Microsoft 365 from the list, then modify it. You should get the option to repair quickly. Choose this, and the word will be reset.
Microsoft Word is running slowly
The final issue on our list is related to the slow running of Microsoft Word. It could be that your keyboard input is not picked up in time, or that pictures or other menu items take time to load. In most cases, we recommend using the quick repair option described above.
However, as an alternative, you may want to try disabling additional add-ins. These are meant to enhance your experience, but can also slow things down. You can disable them by clicking the File menu, then Add Options, and then Ins. Now, it’s time to click an add-in, and then the Go button. You will then be able to disable it by clicking Remove.
